From small beginnings a few years ago when we were invited to undertake some support work for Motability, we now seldom seem to be without a car in the workshop having its control systems tweaked, special seating fitted or a lift installed.
The majority of these cars are being supplied via local car franchises to Motability users, and the adaptations supplied at a subsidised price to the end user. However we do fit adaptations for private buyers either to existing vehicles or - given the VAT exemptions available to some private car owners - to new vehicles.
As a generalisation we fit:
Driving controls, which might typically involve issues relating to steering; acceleration; hand and foot braking; signalling and secondary electrical switching.
Equipment to assist with access and seating.
Equipment to assist with wheelchair and scooter stowage.
We are also often called on to support specialist equipment fitted to vehicles supplied from outside the area. Allied Vehicles of Glasgow for example supply numbers of smaller wheelchair accessible vehicles to this area, and we are happy to liaise with them and other specialist coach builders if issues arise relating to the tie-down mechanisms, winches, ramps systems or similar.
As warranty and service agents for Ricon and Braun wheelchair tail lifts, we are also seeing an increasing number of mini-buses and smaller public service vehicles coming in for service, repairs and LOLER testing on their lift systems.
We have fitted taxis with tie-down systems and ramps suitable for both occasional and regular use.

He-Man and similar dual controls for driving instructors.
Extra seats into vans and mini-buses.
